Honors 201: Research

As an undergraduate student, I did not think that research was for me. I thought that research was for graduate students and researchers. I knew that I would be a graduate student, and that I would someday have to do research, but I paid no heed to my upcoming future. During this unit in Intro to Honors course, I developed my personal opinions on research as well as a personal research plan for my senior year before entering graduate school. I learned about the importance of ethical research, including finding accurate and valid sources and correctly citing sources in order to give credit. I used these philosophies to organize mine and other’s ideas ethically in this paper as well.

Research has changed for me in the sense that I learned that it is something necessary that all students should do in order to contribute to knowledge about a topic or issue. It is a form of innovation, and it does not make you just competitive for grad school and jobs, but it leads to increasing curiosity and knowledge among students and the community. Research can be on any topic, any subject, and in any major. Because of this unit and this essay, I am able to see more opportunities for research, and I am more motivated to be an innovator and a researcher.
